Hey guys. I'm working on a Magic Forest Guard build, but I'm not sure how that work work exactly If I have a polearm/glove that has an element on it... does it deal magic dmg, physical dmg or both? Or does it just make basic attacks do magic dmg, but ability attacks still do physical? So confusing... I ask this because I'm not sure which Aura to take (Fire Phoenix, Spirit Turtle, or Hunting Eagle).

I think Spirit Turtle would be good, because it lowers defense by 20%... but defense only affects physical dmg taken, right? So wouldn't that be useless for a magic dmg class? That would leave Fire Phoenix as the best choice for dmg (more crit), and Hunting Eagle as best choice for defense (fear). What do you think?

If your weapon has an element on it, your attacks including skills will be magic damage. For example, if your sword/gloves is 'fire' element your attack and skills will be doing magical 'fire' damage.

Most of Forest Guard skills are physical attribute and the rest is 'support' skill which in this case is irrelevant, so basically if you use a element weapon, all your skills will be magical damage.

- Defense & Parry affects Physical Damage
- Resistance affects Magical Damage

-Def will not do anything for you if you are magic.
Critical hit rate will not do anything for you if you are magic.

Double hit will work for you if you are magic.
Also, the HoT from the -Def skill (if you are hit by a crit heal X) does work for magic types, obviously.

forest guard, even though capable, is not suitable for magic type

the very simple reason is that the only refined skill that uses an aura they get is for the sigil turtle's guard blast (decrease def); the defense decrease on the target is what makes guard blast's damage somewhat similar to other guard dps skills, if you go magical you'd be dealing less damage as forest guard than you'd do as a magic hunting soul

hunting soul however gets a refine for armor piercing fist, which decreases the target's elemental resistances, a refine for fierce tiger combo (which works with fire phoenix anger to deal triple hits; note that fire phoenix anger increases both physical and magical critical hit rate)

hunting eagle dash's terror is at very least useless, for 1.5 secs the most you can expect is the monsters running away a few meters, which due to the lack of ranged or charge skills is a inconvenience, it's only use is to stun targets on 1v1 using boxing king combo; which in return falls behind in damage and is only useful for the refine that increases the damage dealt by forest dragon fist by 100%

so..... since your question was for magic forest guard the answer is no
just keepin it real

I sense someone will argue with your^ statement. not me, for I do not own nor use a Forest Guard. But when he see this, by human nature, he will.

Maybe you are right, Alfiepd. But it looks like Forest Guard will do less damage than Soul Hunting no matter which way you go (phys or magical). I guess the main reason I want to go Forest Guard is because of Forest Divine. It's good for pve and pvp, it's good for you and your party. Maybe I am just kidding myself in trying to make Guard work, compared to Soul Hunting or some other class
